Since turning eighteen, cigarettes have been inextricably linked to my life in ways I don't fully realize. Once a unobtainable indicator of a time gone by, cigarettes slowly creeped into my life as my existence changed from a stable, naiively exciting life to a mercurial, seasonal moving routine. Moving to New York proved to be integral to my habit formation. Both the lack of parental supervision as well as the sudden changes in my physical and mental spaces presented the perfect strom for nictoine to become the preferred substance of my life.
Marlboro Reds were my gateway into a life of persistent coughs. Whily my initial smoking phase lasted only about a month and a half. It became something I could turn to. Reds became my backup as I navigated college, providing the needed distraction from studies but also the unique air of maturity for a freshly-nineteen student. To me, cigarettes became the fastest path towards sophistication.
